Way of working

What does Wamiliki want to achieve?

In the first place we want to contribute to promoting an equal place at the table.

Wamiliki means the owners or heirs. Africans must determine their own course, unhindered by cultural and economic barriers, or the objectives of organizations and countries from the Global North.

Africans must have the space to contribute to the economy, science and culture on their own terms and from their own vision. They must be able to own their own heritage. She wants to connect Europe and Africa more strongly as equal partners, but clearly in that the Africans determine their own agenda.

How does Wamiliki want to achieve this?

Wamiliki wants to contribute to a more equal place for Africans in determining their own future, using their own heritage and owning it. She wants to do this by organizing meetings and training courses to increase insight into the barriers that exist to taking ownership of one's own development and to help remove those barriers.

It is about Africans and Europeans learning to see each other as equal, learning to appreciate each other's objectives and working methods and creating space for an approach that does justice to ownership and heritage.

Wamiliki initially wants to carry out a pilot in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo. A country that has enormous potential, but has also had very little ability to determine its own direction and actually has very limited ownership of its own heritage. The pilot will particularly appeal to local potential, people who have extensive experience, formal and informal leaders who can evoke new ways of thinking and acting.

The policy plan drawn up in September 2021 further elaborates this objective.

A pilot will be carried out together with a group of stakeholders from Congo and Europe.

We will select a number of stakeholders and ask them to set up the pilot with us.

It is important that we want to select one or more projects where the expectation is that by working together with these stakeholders and with the diaspora, the results and sustainability of the projects will be improved.

In addition, we will identify local priorities with these stakeholders and propose projects based on these priorities. It must be very clear that there is African ownership and that the stakeholders determine the choices based on local needs. To properly manage this process, there will be discussion meetings and training.

The results will be published.
